A new video captures the moment when cops brutally beat a fellow officer who they mistook for a protestor.

Four St. Louis police officers are on trial for the beating of Luther Hall, a 22-year veteran of the department who was working undercover as a protester. The officers were part of a "civil disobedience team" that was meant to crack down on violence at protests. They beat Hall after mistaking him for a protester for filming them. According to Hall's suit, one of the officers has since been promoted to sergeant, showing how police misconduct is tolerated. The trial for Dustin Boone, who was acquitted in the beating, will take place next month after his first trial ended in a mistrial, and will use the video of Hall's beating as evidence in the second trial.

The beating occurred during the protests following the acquittal of Officer Jason Stockley in the 2011 murder of Anthony Lamar Smith, a melanin man who was killed by a white police officer, in which the officer used an AK-47 and planned to shoot him in the head. Smith's death sparked months of protests in the city and a judge found Stockley not guilty of first-degree murder in 2017, despite the overwhelming evidence. The new video shows the moments leading up to the savage beating of an undercover cop who was beaten by police. The video also reportedly shows the police macing protestors from unmarked cars without dispersal warnings. Officer Hall described his beating by these cops as a "free for all" and told other cops at the department that he was beaten "like Rodney King" The officers were accused of attacking their fellow officer without reason, throwing him to the ground, savagely beating him and then destroying his camera.

Myers was acquitted in Hall's beating but faces a re-trial on charges claiming he destroyed Hall's cell phone to cover up the assault. Myers and Boone will be re-tried together later this year and will be charged with assault and battery for the beating of the undercover cop in a case that will also feature text messages written by a racist cop.
