In Osun, a 48-year-old farmer was hospitalised when a police officer pulled his motorbike into a gutter.
Kazeem Amzat, 48, was hospitalised Wednesday after a police officer in Osun dragged him and his son, Afeez, on a motorcycle in Osogbo.
The event occurred at around 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday in the Owo-Eba, Oke-Ijetu neighbourhood of Osogbo, the capital of Osun State.
The police officer was one of the state CID officers stationed at the Owo-Eba checkpoint.
Amzat, who also sells plank, is now recovering from a bone fracture in his left leg. Additionally, it was said that several furious adolescents in the vicinity descended on the police officer after the event, injuring him.
Amzat described his experience in a hospital bed, saying he was riding his motorbike to his farm in Apara village, Atakunmosa East Local Government, with his son.
He continued by stating that he instructed his son, who was riding the motorbike, to detour to meet a welder who had been working for him on a building, when a police officer suddenly approached and brandished a pistol at them.
Amzat stated, "The cop pulled the motorbike with his son while it was in motion, and they fell into a gutter."
"A checkpoint is located in the front, and the welder's shop is located on the corner just before the checkpoint. The police officer was stationed at a crossroads, far from his colleagues. He suddenly emerged and aimed a pistol at us from the shelter of the road; my kid and I were terrified — he dragged us into the gutter, which is how my leg was shattered.
"He began pleading, and one of his coworkers agreed to look after me regardless of the cost. They escorted me to the hospital, and I have not seen or heard from them since. Several police officers from the command have arrived to do a check on me.
Additionally, Standard Daily Times discovered that the welder and vulcanizer had been detained and were in custody as of the time of posting this storey.
Attempts to contact the Osun command's Public Relations Officer, SP Yemisi Opalola, received no response, as phone and text messages addressed to her remained unanswered.
Recall that in August 2020, a similar incident occurred in Osun state when a 20-year-old fashion designer, Ayomide Taiwo, was brutalised with the butt of the gun by a police officer over a N50 bribe. He died six days later in a coma at the Ladoke Akintola Teaching Hospital (LAUTECH), Osogbo, where he was receiving treatment.
In another instance that same year, Idris Ajibola, a 21-year-old apprentice, was similarly hunted to death in Osogbo by personnel from the Joint Task Force (JTF).
