SP Kontongs Bello, the command's Public Relations Officer, revealed this in a statement released in Benin on Saturday. Although the officer's identity was not included in the statement, a police spokesman said that the officer is assigned to the command's anti-kidnapping and cybercrime section. He said that the detained cop fired a shot to subdue a murder suspect while attempting to apprehend him. The bullet struck one of the occupants in a moving car in the thigh. The man was taken to Edo Specialist Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. “Unfortunately, the bullet struck one of the passengers of a moving car, Moses Adam. He was taken to Edo Specialist Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

“The incompetent officer will face an administrative hearing to establish his culpability,” the statement said.

Ogbadu, he said, has ordered the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of criminal investigation to conduct a discreet inquiry into the incident's circumstances.
