Cop is being held on suspicion of murdering his son and stuffing him into a hole in the wall.

On June 28th, Latrice Banks, the wife of Eric G. Banks Jr., petitioned Court Ronald Karasic to grant a restraining order against the former United States Marine and current Baltimore police officer, but the judge declined. Dasan Jones (15) would be discovered dead less than two weeks later, and officer Banks would almost certainly now be charged with his murder. Banks had petitioned the court to safeguard her family from the officer, her husband, for alleged emotional abuse and stalking tendencies. Mrs. Banks was forced to share custody of her three children after being denied the court-ordered safeguards she requested. After being unable to reach Dason, who went by the moniker "DJ," on the phone, police were requested to check over him on Tuesday. Officer Banks was already suspended for an unknown departmental violation when police arrived at his Curtis Bay condominium on the 1400 block of Stoney Point Way. While police searched the home for DJ, Banks informed them that the hole on the wall in the upper loft was where he kept his "gun safe."

Further examination revealed DJ unresponsive within the hole in the wall, concealed by some kind of plastic. The Capital Gazette reports:

According to authorities, banks first informed responding officers that the youngster had fled the home, leaving his things behind. Officers discovered the child in an upper room. Officials claimed police executed numerous search warrants, questioned witnesses, and gathered "several pieces of evidence" at the site. DJ Banks passed away on Wednesday, and the cause of death is yet unknown. Officer Banks seemed to obstruct the inquiry on Tuesday by claiming DJ was not at home, and when police located the young guy, the cop now accused of his murder got confrontational. He reportedly tried to steal the weapon of a female cop and seemed to want the officer to shoot him as a consequence. Rather than that, she requested assistance, and Officer Banks was apprehended. The officer noted the following in his arrest report:

Mr. Banks said several times throughout our struggle over the weapon, 'you're going to have to stop this.'

Due to the fact that the officer's cause of death has not been established and the identity of those responsible for his death is unknown at this time, he is being detained on charges connected to the attack on his fellow cop. While it is conceivable that another person murdered DJ or that he died naturally, all evidence points to the disturbed cop as the main suspect. On Thursday, Assistant State's Attorney Jason Miller argued that Banks should be detained without bail due to the officer's "homicidal and suicidal comments." Miller said to Judge Danielle Mosley of the Anne Arundel County District Court:

He confessed to police that he relocated his son's corpse from one place in the house to another, Your Honor...

He has shown that he is not scared to use violence.

Mosley rejected Banks and his attorney's plea for home confinement on the grounds that the officer is a flight risk and a threat to himself and the community. Banks is now being held in protective custody on accusations of assault on a police officer and resisting arrest, with many more charges anticipated later. He has been put on unpaid leave at this time. Additional charges are anticipated in connection with his stepson's death. DJ is remembered by friends and family as a bright student who loved playing the violin and aspired to be a doctor.
