Cop Shoots harmless woman via Window as She plays Video games With 8yo Nephew

On the night of Columbus Day, 2019, Atatiana Jefferson, 28, had committed no crime, had harmed nobody, and was playing video games along with her 8-year-old nephew when she heard a noise within the backyard and visited investigate. As Jefferson walked to the window to determine who the prowler was, the prowler opened fire and murdered her inside her home. Because this prowler wears a badge, however, rather than investigating a murder, the local department conducted control by assassinating Jefferson’s character before arresting urban center peace officer Aaron Dean together with her murder.

It has been over a year since Dean murdered Jefferson in her house and also the officer has yet to even move to trial. Now, because the wheels of criminal justice are barely turning, two members of Jefferson’s family filed a decease lawsuit against the town or the city and also the former officer to hunt civil justice.

The murder passed early a Saturday morning when an officer was dispatched to Jefferson’s home because her door was slightly ajar. To be clear, however, Jefferson had storm doors, which were closed. Only the door inside was open, which is common for those that have a glass outer door. rather than simply walking up to Jefferson’s door and ringing the doorbell or knocking, the officer crept round the home sort of a cowboy. When he spotted Jefferson within the window, he opened fire and killed her. per her family, Jefferson’s 8-year-old nephew was within the room when he watched his aunt “Tay” fall to the bottom and die.

The suit says the town of the city “knew or should have known that Defendant Aaron Dean exhibited a pattern of escalating encounters with the general public,” and did not adequately train or supervise cops.

“By their deliberate indifference, Defendants town of metropolis department of local government implemented and encouraged policies, practices, and customs with deliberate indifference to the rights of citizens,” the lawsuit says.

Creeping around a home along with your gun drawn, despite no threats and no reports of violence certainly illustrates the very fact that Dean had no intention of peacefully ending this soon-to-be encounter.

“I mean it’s senseless. My daughter… had her whole life before of her,” father Marquis Jefferson said. He then went on to notice how he won't offer hugs to his daughter’s killer like Botham Jean’s brother did within the courtroom after Amber Guyger was found guilty of his murder.

“I don’t want no hug. That’s my one and only daughter. I’ll always remember that,” Jefferson said.

In a rare move, the body camera footage was shortly released, showing the killing takes place. because the video shows, her killer never once announced himself as a law officer. This detail was also discerned by urban center police spokesman Lt. Brandon O’Neil.

“The officer failed to announce that he was a lawman before shooting,” O’Neil said. “What the officer observed and why he didn't announce police are addressed because the investigation continues.”

In the video, Dean sneaked around the side of Jefferson’s home without announcing himself. Any rational person would perceive this action as a threat. However, Jefferson never attacked the officer and instead walked up to a window to urge a more in-depth look. When the extremely trigger happy and fearful officer saw her within the window, he made one short announcement before immediately killing her.

“Put your hands up. Show me your hands!” Dean said before immediately opening fire but a second later.

After releasing the body camera footage, police held a group discussion during which they took to smearing Jefferson. During the conference, police claimed the officer was “perceiving a threat” when he opened fire on Jefferson. The Fort Worth department of local government then reportedly released a picture of a firearm with zero explanation of why they did so.

No clarification on why a photograph of a gun was released was ever given.

Nevertheless, the image of the gun was shown and Jefferson was painted as some armed criminal merit execution.

The neighbor who made the decision about the open door now regrets ever calling the police in the first place.

“It causes you to not want to call the department of local government. Because not just Dallas or other incidents, if you don’t feel safe with the department of local government, then who does one feel safe with?” Jefferson’s neighbor, 62-year-old James Smith said. “Do you only ignore crime or ignore something that’s not right? They tell you if you see something, say something. Well if you are doing that and you cause somebody to lose their life it causes you to don't want to try and do that and that’s sad.”

Jefferson was a Xavier University of Louisiana graduate who had no record. She had committed no crime and harmed nobody. She was murdered in her own residence by people that claim to safeguard society. and since her killer was one in every one of these people, he’s been given special privilege throughout the whole ordeal.
