Neighbors Shocked as Cops Attack, Kidnap Amazon Delivery Man for ‘Parking Wrong’

As the Free Thought Project reports on a regular basis, cops enforcing arbitrary laws with no victims, can and will escalate force to the point of killing you for non-compliance. Residents of a quiet Michigan suburb got a shocking dose of this reality Tuesday as they watched an Amazon delivery driver get slammed to the ground and hauled off in handcuffs as he delivered packages to their neighbors. His alleged “crime”? According to residents, he parked on the wrong side of the road.
Residents watched in awe from their porches Tuesday afternoon as the driver was tackled to the ground, handcuffed, and then hauled off by cops over the incident. On Wednesday, Warren police announced they will be charging the driver with felony charges for resisting arrest and failing to show ID. Apparently, the cop who tackled the 23-year-old Amazon delivery man did so after he refused to show his ID 11 times.
“I delivered to her,” the driver says to police as he holds him down.
“I can attest to it, he put the box in my hand,” said witness Diana Gouim, pleading with the cop to let him go.
As the video shows, residents are pleading with the officer to leave “the kid” alone. The driver was so small, that they were concerned for his safety as the officer twice his size held him down on the ground.
Neighbors also said he was a very nice man and went above and beyond his duties as an Amazon driver.
“And he was so polite to my neighbor, he offered to put it on the chair for her because it was heavy,” said neighbor Geri Cheatham.
But seconds later, here comes a Warren cop “just doing his job” and attacking a man for allegedly parking on the wrong side of the road in a neighborhood. The horror.
“It was ridiculous for one little kid that was the size of me,” Cheatham said.
“From when my sister walked in the house and then walked back out, the cop had him on the ground and cuffed and was calling for back-up,” said witness Jim Michaels.
“Because he parked backward,” another witness says on the video.
Despite repeated pleas from neighbors, the cops continued holding him down and eventually hauled him off. Showing how arbitrary the stop was in the first place, after kidnapping the young man, police left his Amazon delivery truck parked in the same spot — the wrong way.
“We, several of the neighbors, spoke with the officer saying the kid hasn’t done anything and the cop was like well, ‘He was parked the wrong way,’” Michaels said.
“He was scared. He was scared. I don’t blame him. It could have gotten out of control totally,” Cheatham said.
After the video of the incident was posted online, Warren Mayor Jim Fouts took to Facebook and called for the firing of the officer and asked for a criminal investigation to be launched. However, he took it down after he had a conversation with Warren Police Commissioner Bill Dwyer, who told him about the refusal to show ID.
After their conversation, Fouts created a new post on Facebook, saying, “I received several phone calls regarding this incident requiring me to make a statement that any type of aggressive behavior is not tolerated. I was upset that one individual could possibly besmirch the fine reputation of Warren police officers.”
Amazon released a statement online, decrying the officer’s actions:
“We see what others see in this video, and it’s unacceptable. We expect a swift investigation and full accountability for those involved. Amazon will deploy all necessary resources to investigate the matter with our Delivery Service Provider, as well as to represent and support the driver,” said Deborah Bass, an Amazon spokesperson.
At a time like this, when tensions between police and the policed are at an all-time high, one would think that cops wouldn’t be tackling and kidnapping delivery drivers for parking incorrectly while delivering packages. However, as the video below shows, one would be wrong and these cops are completely tone-deaf.
Only in the “land of the free” can a young black man trying to earn a living be attacked and kidnapped by police while doing his job.
